Wellington writer, photographer, editor and environmentalist Michael Szabo hopped on to kōrero his new book Wild Wellington Ngā Taonga Taiao. It highlights Wellington as NZ’s nature restoration capital, leading the country with its critical mass of conservation projects from single sites to the wider Wellington area.

Wellington has an abundance of wildlife and protected areas which have created a ‘halo’ effect, leading to a proliferation of native species throughout the region. Richly illustrated, Michael demonstrates in the book that Wellington is a trailblazer in Aotearoa in terms of it’s protection and restoration of native flora and fauna. The book describes some of the nature restoration projects including the Zealandia ecosanctuary, Kapiti Island, Mana Island, Matiu/Somes Island, Taputeranga Marine Reserve, Predator Free Wellington and Capital Kiwi Project.

The book is the first detailed photo-guide to the wildlife and wild places of the Wellington area.
