In Studio Interview with Argentine/Kiwi music therapist Carlos Riegelhaupt Landreani
Carlos will be presenting a workshop titled Music Therapy and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: Past, Present, and Future at the Looking Back, Moving Forward conference in Wellington from September 13-15, 2024, which celebrates 50 years of music therapy!
Carlos, based in Wellington and originally from Argentina, will explore the historical uses of psychedelics and music therapy from the 1960s and 70s to today. He became fascinated with Helen Lindquist Bonny’s work in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), a method using music to facilitate therapeutic experiences in expanded states of consciousness.
Carlos is so passionate about this subject and explains there’s a lot going on in the psychedelic space in NZ, and much more is happening behind closed doors. He is hopeful that very soon these alternative treatments will be included in treatment plans for people with a diagnosis of mental health conditions.
In addition to his therapeutic work, Carlos impressively handcrafts drums from giant tree logs with animal skins and hosts monthly full moon drumming circles. He is quite the guy!!!
